My son, how do I explain to you that, despite the message being conveyed and inferred from these recent current events; that your life does matter? How do I explain the significance of our President's race, when despite his achievements, he is still subjected to disrespect and threats on his life? How do I tell you that the color of your skin doesn't matter, when the world loudly and violently contradicts my sentiment?
My son, I pray for the strength and the words that will resonate, take root and flourish within you. I pray that you will never feel hopeless, worthless and discouraged from aspiring towards greatness. I pray that you will use your mind and your emotions to spread love, unity and education to those around you, as well as those that will come after you. I pray that you will not see or define yourself by the world's definition of you, but instead by God's definition which states that you are "created in His image".
I pray that you will see yourself as equal to your counterparts, never inferior. Most of all I pray that you will love yourself, just the way you were created, in all of your uniquely crafted beauty...just as your Creator loves you. Last but not least,I pray that you will remember that I will always be here to offer you love and a warm embrace; especially when you can't understand or shake off the coldness of the world. My son, never, ever forget: Your life matters.
