It's really important that we are careful about how we define ourselves as individuals. Some people believe that, who they are is defined by their environment, past experiences, choices and their family influences. For example: A person who was born and raised in a bad neighborhood, may believe that they are confined to that existence and that this is who they are and what their life will look like until they die. For some, getting a divorce or repeatedly making bad relationship choices causes them to feel doomed to a life of heartache and loneliness. Or, someone whose family has had generations of individuals who've never made it to college, may not believe that college is a viable option. There are so many examples, these are just a few.
The point is, whatever the scenario, we must remember and remind ourselves often that we are not defined by the places we're from, people who have hurt us, bad choices we've made or negative experiences from our past. Although these variables definitely influence and impact us, we still have a choice to become a better version of ourselves and to improve our lives. We must always look to the future without clouding our judgment with negativity from our past and/or our present circumstances. Make a decision today as to who you want to be and become that person. There is no perfect person on this planet. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone gets knocked down in some shape or form. However those that transform their lives into something successful and meaningful, are those who don't stay down. They get up and move forward. They don't accept the illusion of limitations that fool people into accepting mediocrity and failure. You have a choice to make. You can either choose to let negativity define who you are and enslave you, or you can define yourself by who you will be from this day forward. The choice is yours.
